This course is an elective course that examines the lives, struggles, and achievements of people of African descent in human history. This course has students develop an understanding of the role and contributions of African Americans to the growth and development of the United States starting with pre-colonial Africa to the present day. Special emphasis will be placed on the historical significance and contributions of African Americans and the systems which have shaped individual and group interactions. The course promotes critical thinking about race, race relations, and the American identity and culture. (May be repeated for credit)
