Course title
Agricultural ChemistryPre-requisite
Applied Biological Systems; concurrent enrollment in Agriculture classCourse description
The purpose of this class is to allow students that are interested in applying sciences to continue doing so. Students already have the opportunity to receive 2 science credits through agriculture classes. These allow them to see practical uses for the concepts taught in agriculture. This course would allow those students to continue that process and learn chemistry concepts and how they are used in agriculture. Since agriculture programs have facilities such as greenhouses; shop; livestock; and land labs; it will be a natural fit to allow students to understand the chemistry that is happening in these facilities. Whether it be understanding PH for soil and aquaculture systems or how food scientists use chemistry to create or preserve foods; students will be able to use agriculture as a vehicle to learn chemistry. Students will also participate in FFA where they will develop leadership skills for career success. A Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) will be required for all students.
