Course title
Agriscience I-Plant SciencePre-requisite
Applied Biological Systems or Applied Biological Systems HonorsCourse description
Students work together in the school greenhouse to learn plant principles. Students will manage and maintain the school greenhouse and garden beds, while utilizing the skills learned in the classroom. Completion of this course is ½ of a lab science credit. Dual enrollment may be offered to allow the student to earn college credit through Maricopa Community colleges. We would like this class to be catagorized as an Advanced Science Class, or an Advanced Biology Course if possible. MCCCD Official Course Competencies 1. Classify common plants according to growth habits, structural form, agricultural use and botanical relationship. (I) 2. Explain the structural parts and essential functions of the plant parts. (II) 3. Explain the importance of the plant growth processes as they pertain to photosynthesis, respiration, metabolism and translocation and storage. (III) 4. Describe the basic concepts of plant reproductive processes. (IV) 5. Explain the environmental influences on plant growth processes. (V) 6. Describe the current bio-technologies that are impacting traditional horticultural and agricultural practices. (VI) 7. Explain how the relationships between humans and plants and plant and plant impact in the world that we all share. (VII) MCCCD Official Course Outline I. Plant classification A.
