Course title

AP Seminar

Pre-requisite

Honor English 9

Course description

We would like to allow students to take AP Seminar for Honor English 10 credit.

Students who complete AP Seminar in 10th grade will be well-prepared for AP Language (11th grade) and AP Literature (12th) or Honors Science and Technical Writing (12th). For students who take AP World History or AP World Studies in 9th grade; they would be able to continue taking AP classes in 10th grade for both English and social studies (AP Seminar and AP Human Geography).

With the AP Capstone program being newest; we are continuing to be at the forefront by offering this program in our schools. However; additional AP course offerings mean; for many students; sacrificing other valuable electives that could be preparing our students for careers; such as agriculture or business; engineering or medical professions courses. By allowing students to take AP Seminar as an English class; students have more choice. They can choose to be enrolled in an additional AP course and continue to be a part of electives that they love. AP Seminar will not only prepare students for success in upper level AP courses but also for real-world civic engagement and college-level work. By offering the course as an English class; students would have more choices that allow for various paths to success in high school and beyond.

""English must include literature and have a substantial emphasis on grammar and composition. Courses such as journalism; business communications; and speech; for example may improve a student?s ability in English; but they are not devoted exclusively to the study of English and may not be substituted for a regular English course."""
