Applied Statistics

Pre-requisite

Algebra II

Course description

This course would be a two semester course where each semester focuses on a different aspect of statistical application. One semester would focus on applying statistics and probability to games of chance. Students would learn how to calculate probability using conditional probability; probability of multiple events; combinations and permutations; expected value and optimal game theory among other studies. The second semester would focus on applications of social issues. Students would learn how to critically analyze data through visual representations; calculating various measures; and regression models. The facilitators of this mathematics course will present the financial and social situations from a neutral position. Their role will be to strengthen students' mathematical knowledge and statistical analysis skills; upon which the students can draw as they interact with these issues; beyond their K - 12 education.†
