Course Description: Artistic Anatomy; Human: Elements of Drawing (This is a Fall Semester course) Drawing has long been held as the foundation of the visual arts. This drawing course will provide an introduction into the basic principles and techniques of drawing along with an overview of artistic anatomy. The instruction is based on time-tested methods within the great tradition of the classical arts. Students will be given numerous hands-on activities and numerous inspirational demonstrations will be provided through out the course.
Besides being introduced to the foundation of drawing; students will create numerous studies and explore an infinite variety of possibilities while studying artistic anatomy. The following includes some of the topics that students will be introduced too: elements of drawing; osteology; muscle structure; comparative anatomy; and idealized proportion. Along with these studies; students will also be given a brief introduction into exploring the imagination through fantasy art and humanoid creature design. The class will participate in activities using the following models for study: skulls; skeletons; anatomical models; plaster and or resin casts; and two-dimensional handouts.
