A Biography of Cancer draws inspirationfrom Dr. Mukherjee’s Pulitzer Prize-winningbook, “The Emperor of All Maladies: ABiography of Cancer.” The curriculumincludes the history of cancer from itsdiscovery to the current state-of-the-art prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.It also tackles the social and economicclimates that both supported and deterredcancer research and treatment advances,which may appeal to humanities students.Scientifically, the course covers the biologyand chemistry of the disease; the biology,chemistry, and physics of diagnosis andtreatment, and the role of prevention.
