Course description

In this first of two courses that comprise Chemistry; the student will explore the fundamentalconcepts of chemistry; while engaging in hands-on and virtual lab experiments; andinterdisciplinary problem-solving activities. The student will build on prior knowledge to learnhow to model the structure of an atom; analyze the periodic table of elements; identify simplechemical reactions and investigate particulate electrical forces. The course provides manyopportunities for the student to apply these concepts to real-world situations.In this second of two courses that comprise Chemistry; the student will explore thefundamental concepts of chemistry as he engages in reading and responding exercises;hands-on and virtual lab experiments; and interdisciplinary problem-solving activities.Throughout the course; the student will analyze the nature of solids; liquids; and gases;investigate the properties of solutions; describe and calculate the energies of different types ofreactions; begin to explore electrochemistry and continue to examine the fundamentalconcepts of nuclear and organic chemistry. The course provides many opportunities for thestudent to apply these concepts to real-world situations.
