In this first of two courses that comprise Chemistry, the student will explore the fundamentalconcepts of chemistry, while engaging in hands-on and virtual lab experiments, andinterdisciplinary problem-solving activities. The student will build on prior knowledge to learnhow to model the structure of an atom, analyze the periodic table of elements, identify simplechemical reactions and investigate particulate electrical forces. The course provides manyopportunities for the student to apply these concepts to real-world situations. In this second of two courses that comprise Chemistry, the student will explore thefundamental concepts of chemistry as he engages in reading and responding exercises,hands-on and virtual lab experiments, and interdisciplinary problem-solving activities.Throughout the course, the student will analyze the nature of solids, liquids, and gases, investigate the properties of solutions, describe and calculate the energies of different types ofreactions, begin to explore electrochemistry and continue to examine the fundamentalconcepts of nuclear and organic chemistry. The course provides many opportunities for thestudent to apply these concepts to real-world situations.
