Course description

Welcome to chemistry. This course includes the study of matter; atomic theory; periodicity; bonding; chemical composition; chemical equations/reactions; quantitative relationships; theory of matter; equilibrium; and acid and bases. Every unit has assignments; quizzes; a lab; a writing assignment; and a unit test. The end of semester assessment will have both a multiple choice section as well as a written section. You must score a 60% on both of those in order to pass the class regardless of your scores throughout the course. In this course your primary medium of learning is the computer. Although the computer limits your ability to participate in groups and experience the smells and sounds of a science lab; the units will include a lab and/or a research component which may be a kitchen-type lab using household products; a virtual lab; or an activity/presentation. This component is essential as chemistry is a lab-based science course.
