Course description

This first part of the course focuses on interior residential and light construction systems. † Students estimate materials and labor costs; study industry standards and building codes; consider health and safety issues; explore energy conservation; careers; and the impact of construction technology on society and the environment.† They will create several projects that stress skills including plumbing; electrical; drywall; and interior finishing.† Students will research various topics and present information. This second part of the course focuses on the application of all construction skills while also introducing advanced construction concepts. In groups; students use their knowledge of design; materials; and construction to independently develop structures to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.† Students will estimate materials and costs.† They must ensure their design complies with industry standards and building codes. † Students also develop career plans to enter a construction trade.† † Industry certification is OSHA 10
