Course description

Contemporary Crafts offers students the opportunity to develop and create complex projects focusing on traditional crafts and folk art using a variety of materials and mediums. An emphasis will be placed on problem solving, construction techniques, and the aesthetic principles of art and design. Students will research the origins and historical context of each technique and how each of these fit into the contemporary crafts movement while they explore the design and function of everyday objects. Student will explore three-dimensional processes with various materials using traditional and nontraditional construction techniques in needlework, weaving, felting, jewelry making, etc.
