Course description

This hands-on course introduces students to essential culinary skills, including knife techniques, cooking methods, kitchen safety, and proper food handling practices. Through collaborative cooking experiences and practical lessons, students will learn how to create balanced meals, stock a functional pantry, and make smart food choices on a budget. Students will explore: • Safe and sanitary kitchen practices • Basic cooking techniques and recipe execution • Nutritional fundamentals and healthy meal planning • Budget-conscious grocery shopping and pantry organization • Introductory gourmet methods and flavor-building strategies By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the confidence and competence to prepare delicious, nutritious meals while maintaining a clean and efficient kitchen environment. Required materials: • Hair tie (for students with long hair) • 1.5-inch binder with sheet protectors • Food Handler’s Card (to be obtained during class at the start of the year)
