Drawing and Painting I is an introductory 2D art course that explores the basic materials, tools and techniques used in drawing and painting creation. Students will learn to design and construct original works by having hands-on experiences with pencil, charcoal, pastel, ink, acrylic, printmaking, and mixed media. Emphasis is placed on the elements and principles of design, craftsmanship, and creative problem-solving. Students will analyze both historical and contemporary 2D art, engage in sketchbook planning, participate in peer critiques, and reflect on their artistic choices. This course develops visual literacy and the technical foundation needed for more advanced 2D art coursework.
