Course title

Evironental Science as L>ADV (not L>INT)

Pre-requisite

1 year biology, 1 year of phyiscal science

Course description

This lab-based course offers a comprehensive study of environmental issues. The emphasis will be on: population students, natural resources pollution, and current environmental topics. (MPS cCourse Catalog) MPS Teacher Syllabus: Introduction and Course Description: Environmental Science (EVS) is unlike many other courses because it is an “applied” science with a strong interdisciplinary focus.  Thus, the goal of this course will be to apply a wide range of disciplines (biology, chemistry, physics, geology, ecology, economics, political science, and mathematics) to thoroughly investigate environmental issues. The overarching theme for this course will be the effect of human activities and interactions on the environment.  Scientific principles and methodology are taught and used throughout the course (e.g., experimental design).  In addition, you will be learning ways to mathematically analyze data to better understand EVS content.  In other words, you will be learning science by doing science.  You will be practicing the methods of science while developing a robust understanding of the nature of science and the scientific enterprise.  You will be collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to answer testable scientific questions.  These answers you generate, as well as the methods used to generate them, will help you in identifying, analyzing, resolving, and preventing environmental problems.   Below is a tentative schedule/list of the units and textbook chapters we will cover during the year. It goes without saying that such a schedule may be modified based on students’ needs, unexpected events, and/or teacher discretion. Expect 1.5 - 2 hours of wet-lab hours a week.
