Course description

Course Description
Financial Algebra is a comprehensive learning program aligned to the State Standards. It is an applications-rich; algebra-based; real life orientated program that incorporates mathematical skills from Math 100; Math 200; and Statistics in real-world contexts. Topics include Banking; Credit; Employment; Income Taxes; Automobile Ownership; Independent Living; Retirement Planning; and Household Budgeting. This course allows students to experience more of a real world Algebra setting that where they can see more of the interrelatedness of all mathematical topics into real world situations and scenarios. The concepts covered in this class are introduced; developed; and applied to real-world context so students can question outcomes using mathematical analysis and data to support their findings.

Textbook
The textbook used for this course is Mathematics with Business Applications written by Walter Lange; Temoleon Rousos; and Robert Mason. The textbook will only be used during class with assignments being assigned during class so there is no need to carry the textbook. Students can also access the assignments on Canvas at https://yumaunion.instructure.com using their login to access any and all assignments.

Basic Information
1) Daily bring a notebook pen/pencil to class so we can accomplish the goals for that day
2) Textbooks do not leave class unless there is an extenuating circumstance
3) Notes will also be posted on the Canvas website for students to view

Grading Policy
You will be graded in 5 different areas

2) Homework/Assignments (20%) – this is the student's daily assignments where they will have time in class to get some of the work done; but can be turned in the next day without any penalty just in case they were not able to finish everything in class.
3) Tests (15%) – there will one test each grading period that will be the big emphasis that we focus on during that grading period.
4) Quizzes (35%) – there is usually 3 quizzes per six week grading period that will prepare the students for the test that will be taken later on during the lesson.
