Pre-requisite

Algebra 1/2,Honors Geometry 1

Course description

Geometry 2 is the second semester of second-year high school math. Honors Geometry 2 helps students to use logic and critical thinking in solving problems involving angles and a variety of shapes. An emphasis is placed on the special properties found in right triangles and on the use of 3-dimensional figures found in the real world. Students will apply the concepts they learn to a variety of situations found in everyday life. In this Honors course; students will complete challenging problems and discovery activities to elevate their learning. This course is driven by and aligned to the Common Core standards.
Through completion of this course; the students will:

Observe and use the properties of similar figures.
Apply their understanding of similarity to right triangles through trigonometry.
Observe the properties of similar and congruent transformations of geometric figures.
Use trigonometric ratios and the Pythagorean Theorem to solve practical problems from everyday life.
Derive and use area and volume formulas to find desired information in real world problems.
Apply properties of circles to problems in physics and astronomy.
