Course description

This honors-level course is based on the required curriculum framework of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program and the Arizona English Arts Standards. It provides students with “linguistic, analytical, and communicative skills that help to develop interdisciplinary understanding,” and includes “a balanced study of genres and literary texts, including a world literature component,” (IB MYP Language and Literature Subject Brief, 2014). In comparison to other non-honors courses at this level, MYP Honors Sophomore English includes increased rigor, text complexity, analysis, and advanced preparation for IB Diploma English courses. It also emphasizes in-depth student discourse, collaboration, and academic independence. Per the IB curriculum framework, MYP students are assessed on these criteria: analyzing; organizing; producing text; using language.
