Course description

This course explores a detailed studies approach to works written in English in which students examine a variety of genres and themes. It builds off the foundational skills established in Pre-IB and/or Honors English 1. Communication skills; research skills; self-management skills; and thinking skills will be emphasized in order to prepare students for the rigorous IB Diploma Programme. The course will promote student centered instruction and inquiry based lessons. Information literacy; media literacy; and collaboration will be heavily emphasized. Other course skills focus upon close reading techniques; rhetorical analysis; written literary analysis and oral presentations. Literary pieces include Greek; British; and American classics as well as works written by modern authors from a variety of backgrounds. Through a variety of literary genres; students will examine international works for theme; cultural influences; and the human experience. Literary analysis; social criticism and comparative analysis will also be emphasized.
