Course description

Introduction to Engineering Design is the first year course within the PLTW Engineering Pathway. The engineering track is designed to give students exposure and experience in a variety of fields of engineering and to give them a solid foundation to engage in engineering fields in college. IED course content focuses on the design process and engineering communication. Some of the topics covered this year will be: The Design Process Technical Sketching and Drawing Measurement and Statistics Modeling Skills Geometry of Design Reverse Engineering In the process, students will also learn to use a powerful Computer Aided Design (CAD) program called Fusion 360. The Engineering Institute is designed for high school students who are interested in exploring a career in one of the various fields of engineering and is part of our K-12 STEAM initiative. The program seeks to give students a solid foundation in engineering design and strategies for solving real world problems. The Engineering Program is aligned with Linfield’s mission to train up professionals to serve the Lord and the world through their leadership and character. Our program centers around applying engineering, science, math, and technology to solve complex, open-ended problems in a real-world context. Students focus on the process of defining and solving a problem, not on getting the "right" answer. They learn how to apply STEAM knowledge, skills, and habits of mind to make the world a better place through innovation. Meets UC "D" science requirement.
