Course title
Introduction to Engineering Design – Project Lead The Way (PLTW)Pre-requisite
Algebra 1Course description
** Listing this course as it is the same course already approved as a Lab Science LPHY>Physics at Linfield Christian High School. Introduction to Engineering Design is the first year course within the PLTW Engineering Pathway. The engineering track is designed to give students exposure and experience in a variety of fields of engineering and to give them a solid foundation to engage in engineering fields in college. IED course content focuses on the design process and engineering communication. Some of the topics covered this year will be: The Design Process Technical Sketching and Drawing Measurement and Statistics Modeling Skills Geometry of Design Reverse Engineering In the process, students will also learn to use a powerful Computer Aided Design (CAD) program called Fusion 360. The Engineering Institute is designed for high school students who are interested in exploring a career in one of the various fields of engineering and is part of our K-12 STEAM initiative. The program seeks to give students a solid foundation in engineering design and strategies for solving real world problems. The Engineering Program is aligned with Linfield’s mission to train up professionals to serve the Lord and the world through their leadership and character. Our program centers around applying engineering, science, math, and technology to solve complex, open-ended problems in a real-world context. Students focus on the process of defining and solving a problem, not on getting the "right" answer. They learn how to apply STEAM knowledge, skills, and habits of mind to make the world a better place through innovation. Meets UC "D" science requirement. Welcome to Project Lead the Way and the Engineering Program. Project Lead the Way is a national, not-for-profit educational program that assists high-school students in developing strong backgrounds in science and engineering. The following is the link to Project Lead the Way online: http://www.pltw.org/our-programs/engineering (PLTW) is a nationally recognized program that provides a comprehensive approach to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education. The PLTW curriculum is activity-, project-, and problem-based and gives students a chance to apply what they know, identify problems, find unique solutions, and lead their own learning. PLTW courses offered by the district are listed below. Students dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on lab science projects. They work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems using 3D modeling software, and use an engineering notebook to document their work.
