HSED9023, HSES437 9th–12th GradeCredits: 5 CSU/UC Approved for “G”This one-semester course is intended to help students familiarize themselves with the knowledge and skills required for a career in
marine biology. In the Introduction to Marine Biology course students will explore the fundamental concepts of marine biology. Theywill learn about the formation and characteristic features of the oceans. They will also learn about the scientific method and explorecareers available in marine biology. The course will introduce them to the characteristic features of different taxonomic groups found inthe ocean. Students will learn about the different habitats, life forms, and ecosystems that exist in the oceans and explore the differenttypes of adaptations marine creatures possess to survive in the ocean. They will learn about succession and the flow of energy in marineecosystems. Finally, students will also learn about the resources that the oceans provide and the threats that the oceans face from humanactivities.
