Course description

In this course, students will be introduced to the five canons of Rhetoric, as outlined in De Inventione by Cicero: invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. Students will be asked to learn and employ those five tenants of Rhetoric through creating and executing several different types of speech (Impromptu Speaking, Monologue Recitation, Persuasive Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, etc.). Additionally, students will be introduced to several different categories of Debate (Forensics) such as Team Policy Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Extemporaneous Debate, Mock Trial, etc., and they will be given the opportunity to participate in local, state, and regional Speech and Debate (Forensic) Competitions.
