Course description

In the first-year Mandarin Chinese course; students are introduced to the fundamentals of the language and culture; with an emphasis on developing novice-level communication skills in the three modes of communication: interpretive; interpersonal; and presentational. The students develop a fundamental vocabulary base as well as the building blocks of basic grammar concepts in order to communicate in a variety of familiar settings. The concepts will be taught through a variety of cultural themes; authentic resources; and instructional techniques.†
