Course description

Math in Society is a rigorous mathematics course designed for students across multiple disciplines in both transfer degrees and career and technical degrees and certificates. The course provides a solid foundation in quantitative reasoning, symbolic reasoning, and problem solving techniques needed to be a productive, contributing citizen in the 21st century. Prerequisite Course description (Math 2)- This is the general math course for most sophomores. This course is a study of geometric figures and their properties, some advanced algebra concepts and more data literacy.. Throughout the course, a major emphasis is placed on inductive/deductive reasoning . Basic trigonometry, parallel and perpendicular lines, circles and conics will be covered. Additionally students will deepen their understanding of the topics through modeling and investigate complex probability scenarios. Students will also learn more about data and statistics.
