Course description

This innovative; problem-based statistics and mathematical applications course engages students in research; experimentation; and collaborative problem solving; as tools to investigate mathematical problems. Students will learn to apply statistical; algebraic; geometric; and trigonometric principals to real-world problems; similar to those they will need to solve in their college classes and future careers.

Week 1-2 Representing Statistics (line plots; stem-and-leaf plots; box-and-whisker plots; scatter plots; etc...)
Week 3-4 Summary Statistics (mean; median; mode; mean absolute deviation; standard deviation; normal distribution)
Week 5-6 Probability (simple; compound; independent; dependent; conditional)
Week 7-8 Random Variables and Probability Distributions
Week 9-10 Combinatorics (permutations; combinations; probabilities)
Week 11-12 Linear Modeling (bivariate data gathering and best fit lines)
Week 13-15 Quadratics and their applications
Week 16-18 Functions and their graphs
Week 19-21 Piece-wise Defined Functions and applications
Week 22-24 Rational Functions (domain; range; interval notation; asymptotes)
