Mathematics Year 4 (College Math); also known in Texas as Advanced QuantitativeReasoning (AQR); is a mathematics course for high school seniors that follows Algebra I; Geometry; andAlgebra II or Integrated Mathematics 1; 2; 3. It builds on and extends what students have learned andcovers a range of mathematics topics that are not part of most school mathematics programs. The course does not remediate skills from the first three years of high school mathematics; but itreinforces needed skills as students study new topics in relevant; engaging contexts. The course also helpsstudents develop college and career skills such as collaborating; conducting research; and makingpresentations. The original AMDM course and supporting resources (including teacher professional development andonline support) were designed by mathematics and education professionals facilitated by the Charles A.Dana Center at the University of Texas at Austin; working in collaboration with the Texas Association ofSupervisors of Mathematics.Mathematics Year 4 (College Math) is the kind of course called for in the Common Core State Standards as an appropriate; rigorousfourth-year option to follow either the three-year integrated/international high school mathematicspathway or the pathway organized around traditional course titles (Algebra I; Geometry; and Algebra II).AMDM is in use or planned for implementation as a fourth-year option in several states that have adoptedthe Common Core State Standards.Developed by the Dana Center at the University of Texas; Austin; this course "includes descriptive statistics; financial/economic literacy; and basic trigonometry; with a heavy emphasis on using algebraic; geometric; and statistical models for a range of situations and problems."The Curriculum Includes:Unit I: Analyzing Numerical DataUsing Ratios; Rates and PercentsUsing Averages; Weighted Averages and IndicesEstimating Large NumbersUsing Check Digits to Validate Identification NumbersUnit II: ProbabilityDetermining ProbabilitiesEveryday Decisions Based on ProbabilitiesExpected ValueUnit III: Analyzing Statistical StudiesCase Study AnalysisUni-variate DataBi-variate DataStatistical InvestigationsStatistical AnalysesSources of VariabilityUnit IV: Using Recursion in Models and Decision MakingRelationships in DataRecursion in Exponential Growth and DecayRecursion in Cyclical ModelsUnit V: Using Functions in Models and Decision MakingRegression in Linear and Nonlinear FunctionsCyclical FunctionsStep and Piece-wise FunctionsUnit VI: Decision Making in FinanceFuture Value of an InvestmentPresent Value of an Investment
