ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE 1 (FORMERLY ENVIRONMENTAL HORTICULTRE 1)

Graduation Requirement: Occ. Ed/Lab Science/Elective
PURPOSE: This year long, dual credit course includes plant taxonomy, plants and their functions, the environment, chemicals, asexual reproduction, growing plants from seed, insect control, using plants in landscape, pruning, and floral design. Plant identification is a key component in this course.
Students will learn skills in problem solving, public speaking, listening, goal setting, and technical skills. Students will grow plants in the school greenhouse and do a sales and marketing project with the spring plant sale. Membership in the FFA student leadership club is included with this course.
SKILLS DEVELOPED: Students will develop skills in problem solving, public speaking, listening, goal setting, and technical skills related to specific jobs in the Agricultural industry.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Willingness to study and work outdoors.
