Course title
Physical Science 1-2 VL (Virtual Edgenuity)Pre-requisite
N/ACourse description
Sem 1:
Project: Element Presentation: Students research an element of choice from the periodic table. Students use reference materials and internet sites to collect data/information about the element. Then; present findings in a multimedia presentation.
Lab: Rate of Chemical Reactions: Students complete a virtual lab; accompanied with a lab report; where they explore the effects of variables on the rate of chemical reactions.
Lab: Density of Solids Students complete a virtual lab; accompanied with a lab report; where they explore the process for determining the density of a solid using a laboratory procedure.
Lab: Acids and Bases: Students complete a virtual lab; accompanied with a lab report; where they explore the concept of pH and how to determine if a substance is acidic or basic using a laboratory procedure.
†
Sem 2:
Lab: Magnetic and Electric Fields:† Students complete a virtual lab; accompanied with a lab report; where they explore the connection between magnetic and electric fields using a laboratory procedure.
Project: Gravity Presentation:Students create a PowerPoint presentation that explains the importance of gravity on Earth; based on evidence.
Lab: Newton's Laws of Motion: Students complete a virtual lab; accompanied with a lab report; where they explore Newton?s first two laws of motion using a laboratory procedure.
Project: Egg Drop: Students build a device that will keep an egg from cracking when it is dropped from a certain height.† Then test the device; determine how well it worked; and make recommendations to improve its design. Students then present final design and the logic that supports it in a lab report.
Lab: Motion: Students complete a virtual lab; accompanied with a lab report; where they explore motion by determining the speed and acceleration of an object using a laboratory procedure.

Per ABOR Requirements: "A Laboratory Science course is defined as a course in w hich at least 1 class period each week is devoted to providing an opportunity for students to manipulate equipment; materials; or specimens; to develop skills in observation and analysis; and to discover; demonstrate; illustrate; or test scientific principles or concepts; such as chemistry; physics; earth sciences and biology." Please advise how manipulation of equipment; materials or specimens was performed once a week in this course.
