Course description

This course is an introduction to world dramatic literature through study of the development of drama and its various genres; focusing on the cultural; literary; and political contexts of individual works. Students learn to identify the elements of varying dramatic genres and the relationships between them. They discuss the impact that cultural factors have on writers and readers of dramatic literature. Students also demonstrate competence in reading and analyzing dramatic literature by examining both the form and the content of each text studied. Finally; students practice articulating their interpretation of dramatic literature through written assignments.
