Course Description:

Reading Strategies:

This course is designed to aid students in improving their reading, writing, and grammar skills, with a large focus on closing the gap for students not on grade-level. The large focus of the class is on reading and novel study, with grammar and writing instruction and practice related to the readings. This course uses the highly engaging Bluford Series books to help students connect with the works they are reading in order to practice the high-level reading, inference, writing, and discussion skills expected in a high school level English or Humanities course.

Units 1-9: All units are titled after books in the Bluford Series by Anne Schraff. Students read nine novels over the course of the school year with other texts to focus and reinforce on 9-10 Standards.
