Wet Lab Hours: Approximately 1–2 hours per week
This course provided a comprehensive foundation in general science, integrating physical science, earth/space science, and human health. It followed the LIFEPAC General Science III curriculum by Alpha Omega Publications, which includes ten worktexts and a teacher guide. The course used mastery-based learning with written lessons, regular tests, and weekly hands-on lab experiments using household and science kit materials.
Topics Covered:
Atomic structure and basic chemistry
Physical and historical geology
Oceanography and environmental science
Astronomy and the solar system
Human anatomy and health
Scientific method and practical applications
Wet Lab Activities (Completed):
Constructing atomic models using clay and toothpicks
Identifying minerals and testing rock hardness (Mohs scale)
Charting moon phases and observing constellations
Measuring salinity and density of saltwater samples
Building a simple stethoscope and measuring pulse before/after exercise
Simulating erosion using sand and water flow
Observing convection currents using colored water and heat
This course was completed over a full academic year with 1–2 hours per week dedicated to wet labs. It fulfills one high school lab science credit.
