Open to juniors and seniors, this course will introduce students to the principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the unique interrelationships of the Sacramento Valley watershed, to identify and analyze problems both natural and human-made that are inherent in the management of this watershed, to evaluate risks involved in altering components of the watershed and to examine possible solutions to the management of such a diverse habitat. Students will use technology to analyze soil and water samples both in the field and laboratory, and identify educational and employment possibilities and resources related to water storage, water treatment, water transfer, hydrology, watershed management, and engineering in the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys.
