Course description

American Literature focuses upon classics of American literature from the colonial to the modern period. The course integrates the study of literature and the practice of essay writing; both in and out of class; with further study of the writing; revision; and edition process. Students will learn to develop their style while focusing on essay writing. Throughout the year the students will be responsible for vocabulary development; outside reading; and; in the second semester; a research paper on an American author of the student?s choosing with teacher approval. Student who take Honors credit will recieve additional rigourous work through out the year.
