Course description

Graphic design introduces students to the principles of visual perception and the practice of visual communication. By definition graphic design is a process of creative planning and the execution of a visual communication. The premise is that students will learn an art form that allows them to problem solve many communication issues via various medias. Students will learn to visually communicate to an audience through their art. Primary areas of study will include proper layout and design concepts; the correct usage of color; lines; visual balance; the use of both analog media (drawing with pencil and paper; etc.) and digital media -- using up-to-date computer tools (graphics hardware and software - for drawing; painting; layout; typography; collage; and photography). Projects include photo manipulation; graphic creation; advertising design; design with typography; logo design; t-shirt design; packaging design; and animated design. In addition students have a full screen printing lab at their disposal for creating and expressing their art on different sub-straights.
