This course includes units of instruction in all aspects of industry; career development; applied math; safety; legal issues; customer service; basic computer and design skills; color management and preparing a portfolio for Graphic Communications occupations. In the introductory digital arts class; students will manipulate digital images using Adobe Photshop; and Illustrator software. Art elements and principles; typography; color theory and systems; will be used to create effective and appropriate design projects for various targeted audiences. Various forms of visual communication will be explored inlcuding logo and collateral design; and multimedia advertising campaigns. Students will use the computer as an alternate medium for visual expression and gain knowledge of digital photography that can be applied to school newspaper or yearbook projects. Drawing and visualization skills will be stressed along with traditional graphic arts. This course provides the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in the production and performance; analysis; interpretation; and evaluation; and historical and cultural aspects of the visual arts. Graphic Communications Fundamentals also combines theory and practice and include critical thinking skills.
