Course description

This course exposes students to the materials; processes; and artistic techniques involved in film; television; or video. Students will learn about the operation of a camera; lighting techniques; camera angles; depth of field; composition; storyboarding; sound capture; script writing; and editing techniques. Course topics may include production values and various styles of film making (documentary; storytelling; news magazines; animation; and so on); as well as; the historical and cultural aspects of various video productions. As students advance; the instruction becomes more refined and students are encouraged to develop their own artistic style. Students may also study major filmmakers; cinematographers and their films. Students will learn about film; television; and video and their relationships to drama and the theater.
