Course description

This course covers English/Spanish legal translation and interpretation through the use of authentic materials that integrate contextually-meaningful situations. It focuses on (1) building conceptual knowledge in the legal contexts; (2) providing language services for limited and non-English speaking populations; (3) comprehending the role of translators and interpreters; (4) understanding the difference between simultaneous and consecutive interpretation; (5) comprehending the role of norms in legal interpretation and translation; and (6) observing translation and interpretation practice in professional settings.
