Course description

This course provides theory; practice and critical thinking skills in visual communication. Various forms of visual communication will be explored including logo; screen printing; lithography; color theory and art elements. The major printing processes used in industry will be explored as well as the advantages and disadvantages of offset lithography; gravure; flexography; screen printing; digital and inkjet. Students become familiar with various software applications including Adobe Photoshop; In Design; and Illustrator. Students explore the many movements of art design; photography; and marketing throughout history to help them in creating their own style. They create products such as postcards; t-shirts; posters; logo design as part of their professional portfolio. This course provides the opportunity for students to critique; interpret and analyze peer and professionally designed projects. Drawing and visualization skills will be stressed along with traditional graphic arts.
