Ya’at’eeh! Welcome to Dine History/Government. This class operates on the 4 A’s: Attendance; Attitude; Attention; and Accountability. You are required to come to class prepared and ready to work when the bell rings. Please bring all necessary learning tools (pencils; paper; etc.) so you are prepared. You will be required to acquire a 3 ring binder to create a portfolio for this class. This is to keep track of your learning and paperwork. Course Description:
The curriculum explores such topics as the Navajo Code; political processes; the impact of government in the community; and interrelationship of the three branches of government; the history of the Navajos and their contributions to society. The class will emphasize Problem Based Learning and will require a great deal of reading; writing; speaking and citizenship. This class will satisfy the requirements to apply for the Chief Manuelito scholarship along with 2 years of Navajo Language classes.

Course Objectives:
1. To learn about the history of the Navajo.
2. To learn about the workings and process of the Navajo Nation Government system.
3. To learn about leadership; rights and citizenship of the Navajo.
4. To appreciate and enjoy the customs of the Navajo culture.

Grading Scale:
The grading system is based on points and weights. Practice 20%; Performance 30%; Measurement 50% for a total of 100%. For example; if you receive a 40/50; that equals a B or 80%. Homework is considered practice; quizzes are performance and tests are considered measurement.
Assignments: Are due the day after they are assigned.
A = 90% or above Assessment Policy: Final Exam is worth 15% of total
B = 80 - 89% grade.
C = 70 - 79%
D = 60 – 69%
F = 59% and below
