Goals/Objectives:

Review/learn grammar (extensive review of present and preterit tenses; learn imperfect; uses and differences between preterit and imperfect; present perfect; and future) in all four modalities: reading/writing/speaking/listening.
Review/learn written components (spelling; punctuation; agreement; sentence structure; accentuation) in all four modalities: reading/writing/speaking/listening.
Review/learn various written forms (be able to write opinions; diaries; essays; letters; endings; summaries; poems; plays; tongue twisters; travel brochures; use figurative language; memoirs)
Review/learn oral forms (be able to ask and answer questions and communicate with peers; teacher and others in various social settings: formal and informal)
Review/learn cultural components of Hispanic heritage (history; authentic materials; projects; music; poetry; dance)
Review/learn various thematic units (travel & hotel; daily routine; restaurants; celebrations; technology; careers)
Review/learn various literary forms (autobiography; drama; legends; news; authentic materials; books)

This is an accelerated course designed for students who are heritage speakers or have attended bilingual schools.

Journals:
At the beginning of each class period; you will be introduced to a journal topic (personal goals; & dreams; freewriting; technology; concepts; life events; etc.) You will write a minimum of 6 sentences describing your opinion; description; like/dislike; etc. based on the theme.

Class structure:
The teacher knows that you are here to learn. Therefore; treat each other with respect. Come to class prepared with homework; bring materials to class and be prepared to participate in ALL activities. Be seated and ready to start when the bell rings.

Procedures & Policies

Absence: The school absence policy shall be implemented in the classroom. If you are absent and excused; it is your responsibility to ask & complete missed assignments in the designated time.

Late Work: A major part of academic success is completing ALL work. The purpose of completing homework is to give students practice and eventually; mastery. If students do not complete assignments deemed as critical by the teacher you will be assigned remediation time during lunch to complete missed work.

Leaving the classroom: In order to leave the class you must have a pass.
1) Ask the teacher in Spanish.
2) Be back within the time given. Bathroom passes will have a time limit of 3-4 minutes. If you take longer than the allotted time; you will be marked absent! This will also terminate your privilege to use the bathroom for the remainder of the semester. .

Electronic devices: Use of cell phones; IPods; and headphones is not permitted unless requested by your teacher as part of the assignment. We are in this class to learn! Therefore; unless permission obtained prior to the start of class (medical emergency; family issues; etc.) no electronic devices are allowed in class. If you are found using these in class (texting; listening to music); your device will be confiscated.

Grading

Students will be evaluated on both oral and written work.
Grading will be based on this scale:
89.5 - 100% = A
79.5 – 89.4% = B
69.5 – 79.4% = C
59.5 – 69.4% = D
Below 59.5% = F
