Spanish 1 is a foundation course for beginning language learners. Students will study the Spanish language and learn to examine and understand authentic written and spoken language. The language will be learned through multiple forms of media; such as T.V. books; radio; short stories; and conversation. Students will then apply this learning in conversations; written stories; formal and informal dialogue; interviews; ordering food; and in conversations that may come up during travel. Along with the Spanish language in its grammatical and conversational context; the culture of the countries where Spanish is spoken will be taken into account as well; such as Mexico; Spain; Argentina; and Puerto Rico. The cultural elements that will be studied are holidays; education; customs; dialects; food; and history. Students will learn not only about the cultures in each of these regions; but become confident in basic skills needed to speak; write; and read in Spanish; in the class and outside of class as well.
