Course title
BIOPre-requisite
Biology 1Course description
We are a very small high school with one science teacher; so the curriculum often varies depending upon the qualifications of the individual teacher. At the time the advanced Biology 2 course was developed and approved; the teacher was highly qualified in biology but not chemistry; so we needed a lab science which would be acceptable for university admittance. The following course outline was in the form of a table; so it has not pasted here as clearly as it appears in that form. If additional information is necessary; please let us know. Thank you for your consideration.
Course Description:
Biology 2 is a second level biology course that allows the students to study advanced topics in biology. A lab-oriented and inquiry-based course which will cover the major topics previously covered in the prerequisite course; Biology 1; with emphasis on more in depth study. Biology is the study of living things and their interdependence with the environment and how life is organized into systems and cycles. This advanced course will emphasize the development of student’s scientific process skills; laboratory techniques; and an understanding of the fundamental principles of living organisms. The chemistry and biochemical processes of photosynthesis; cellular respiration; membrane structure and functions; enzyme activity; biomedical genetics; reproductive processes and embryo genesis are covered. Other topics include: Cellular Transport; Anatomy and Physiology of plants and animals; Ecology and Organic Adaptation.
