Course Description (MC10 Veterinary)
Prepare for a career in the veterinary field while learning the skills that will allow you to work with all creatures; large and small. During this 2 semester course; students focus on anatomy and physiology of animals and human species; hands-on skills and practical applications. This course is a one year program designed to prepare college bound high school students for an education and career in the veterinary health care field. It covers both the anatomy and physiology of the animal and human body’s organ systems as well as cell and tissue structure in great detail. There are 18 units incorporated into the course each lasting approximately two weeks.

Dissections Labs: Each student completes a detailed dissection and analysis of the following:
- a pig heart
- sheep kidney
- sheep brain
- cow eyeball
All labs are conducted hands-on with living animals brought by the instructor; the students; or the public. In addition to the classroom note taking; textbook work and labs; students complete many other classroom activities and must complete a quiz on anatomical diagrams of each system in order to review and clearly understand animal and human anatomy and physiology.
Academic Skills Attained:
- Language: Medical terminology is learned; helping improve your general English language skills.
- Reading: Frequent reading assignments target improved reading comprehension.
- Math: You will read; record and interpret graphs and charts. Basic math skills in addition; subtraction; multiplication; division; metric system; Roman numerals; etc. are utilized in real-life health situations.
- Writing: You will be expected to write reports including research reports.
- Communication Skills: You will gain skills and practice oral; non-verbal; and written communication skills.
