Graphic Design is a form of visual communication that incorporates written and visual languages to meet specific communication objectives. This course focuses on introducing students to the numerous elements involved in conceptualizing; creating; and publishing various forms of visual communication. Students will develop an understanding of the industry through studying; identifying; and applying the following: the fundamentals of design principles (PARC; color theory); concepts of typography (lettering; font design); basic design software (Microsoft; Adobe). Students will explore foundational principles of design and solve design problems varying in complexity through use of a range of media; varying from traditional art materials to digital design tools. Students will create a portfolio of their work and will showcase their favorite pieces at the semi-annual Art Shows.
