Ancient History I and II (9th Grade) courses provide a survey of the evolution of society from the ancient Middle East through Greek and Roman civilizations and build upon the students’ prior knowledge of facts; cause and effect; and the logic of relationships between facts as they move into the critical analysis of historical text focusing on ideas rather than just facts. Utilizing the rhetoric-stage of the Classical Education Model; students will actively engage with the ideas of the past by evaluating; tracing their development; and comparing them to other philosophies and opinions. These comprehensive courses provide students with an overview of ancient history and include a historical overview of political; military; scientific; and social developments and extensive analysis of key documents essential to the structure and development of the time period while gaining a greater understanding of our own civilization; country; and place in time; stemming from what has come before us.
