Advanced Algebra with Financial Application (also called Financial Algebra) is a course that will use mathematics to give you the tool to become a financially responsible young adult. The course employs all levels of the college and career readiness standards to solve financial problems that occur in everyday life. Real-world problems in investing; credit; banking; auto insurance; mortgages; employment; income taxes and budgeting; are solved by applying relevant mathematics. The use of technology; such as computers and graphing calculators; are key components of the course. A Culminating Excel Budget Project using a computer spreadsheet pulls all of the learning together; while sending the students on with tools that they can use throughout their lives. The Mathematical Practice Standards apply throughout the course and together with the content standards; prescribe that students experience mathematics as a coherent; useful; and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations.
