Students enrolled in English III are involved in the study and practice of writing and the study of American Literature. Students learn how cultural values; conflicts and events have impacted our nation and the literature of the time. Based on the Arizona College and Career Ready Standards; this course provides students with the skills and knowledge to become critical readers and writers by analyzing key ideas and details; craft and structure; and the integration of knowledge and ideas in literature and informational text. This course will develop the student’s writing skills by examining text types and purposes and by writing arguments; explanatory/informational texts; and narratives. This course will advance students’ knowledge of the conventions of Standard English and will strengthen vocabulary acquisition and use. Students will receive 1.0 credit I English upon completion of this two semester course (0.5 credit each semester).
