Course description

The AP English Literature and Composition course is designed to engage students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature. Through the close reading of selected texts; students can deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers. The course includes intensive study of representative works from various genres and periods; concentrating on works of recognized literacy merit. The course emphasizes the expository; analytical; and argumentative writing styles. AP English Literature and Composition prepares students for; and students are expected to take the AP Literature and Composition Examination. Students will receive 1.0 credit in AP English upon complete of this two semester course (0.5 credit each semester).
