Prerequisite: Completion of Honors Biology and Honors Chemistry. Completion of or concurrent enrollment in Honors Physics.Course description
Biotechnology is a lab-based course where students explore the potential and risks associated with the ability of scientists to remove and manipulate DNA (genes) or to transfer DNA (genes) from one organism to another. The lab experiences require analysis of data sets and the use of the technologies of DNA science such as micropipetting and gel electrophoresis. Contemporary applications of the technology include forensics; criminology; and genetically modified crops. Student engagements are mainly collaborative and require the use of current; timely resources such as scientific journals; newspaper articles and news journals. Prerequisite: Completion of Honors Biology and Honors Chemistry. Completion of or concurrent enrollment in Honors Physics.
